At Warburtons, family is at the heart of our business.
That’s because we’re a real family bakers still owned and run by the Warburton family. Five generations’ worth of expertise goes into making our products and allows us to continue a tradition of baking which began back in Bolton in 1876.
Today, we have grown to be the largest bakery brand in the UK but still remain a privately owned family business actively managed by the fifth generation, Jonathan, Ross and Brett.
We produce over 2 million products every day at our 11 bakeries which we deliver fresh to 18,500 stores every morning from our 18 depots and distribution hubs. We make a huge range of products, from bread and rolls to crumpets, pittas, naans, teacakes, bagels and thins.
In 2011 we launched our Gluten Free brand, which is now Britain’s number one Gluten Free bakery brand. From our dedicated bakery in Newburn, we bake a strong range of Gluten Free products including a Tiger Loaf, Fruity Buns, Crumpets and Pittas.
We may be the most chosen grocery brand in the UK, but that doesn’t allow us to rest on our laurels. We are pioneers of the industry and ambitious market innovators, and our family ownership structure allows us to take a long term approach to how we do business. We invest heavily in our future – to ensure we can deliver great quality products and innovate ahead of competitors – and have spent over £400m in our operations over the last 10 years.
We place quality at the heart of everything we do, and everyone across our business is focused on delivering the best bakery in Britain. We have a team of dedicated Quality and Technical experts who spend every day looking at everything from the performance of the flour, to the colour of the crust and the texture of the bread and we even get a little competitive through our Derrick Warburton Trophy which recognises and rewards our bakeries for producing the highest quality products across the business. Quality starts with the best ingredients, and we source everything we use to ensure the highest ethical and quality standards. We believe that without the best wheat, we can’t make the best bread and work closely with our farmers in the UK and Canada to contract grow the right wheat, with the right qualities for the products we are proud to put our name on.
